Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation in memory of Edward Richards
Fund Type: Memorial Donations
Virginia Beach, VAFundraiser ends on May 20, 2016
Edward 'Ed' Richards was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma eight years ago until he had a relapse this past February. Multiple Myeloma is a hemotological (blood) cancer that two out of three of Ed's daughters have endured. Jocelyn was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 1999 and Blair was also diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2001. We entered a research study at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in New York in 2003, entitled The Familial Hematological Malignancy Research Project, the goal of which was to determine whether there was a genetic link for blood cancers. It was our sincere hope that we would someday understand why three out of four of our immediate family members were afflicted with a blood cancer, not just due to curiousity, but also because we have a sister (who is thankfully healthy) and six children between the two daughters who have had cancer. Our hope initially was to raise money for this study, but we have since found that this study is no longer in existence. Perhaps, with the money we raise in honor of our father, the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation will consider a continuation of this very worthwile pursuit, not just for our family but for others.
