A native of Hertford County, Mr. Brett was born on January 19, 1928 to William Clyde Brett and Dessie Rae Cowen Brett in Menola, NC. Buddy often spoke of his love for his country and was proud of his service. He served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. He was a devoted member of Meherrin Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, and on various other committees. Buddy was also a member of Masonic Lodge #17. He went back to school in his fifties to earn his GED so that her could work for the town and later retired as superintendent of public works, received an award from the Murfreesboro Fire Department for his years of service to the town of Murfreesboro, was one of the original individuals to start The Murfreesboro Rescue Squad. He loved gardening and seeing things grow, loved to read, and working on motors. Buddy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and friend. He spoke little but the way he lived spoke volume to his family and friends.
