Denise Kanan (nee Kern) passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 after a short, very intense battle with cancer. She was born May 4, 1970 in New Milford, New Jersey. Denise was raised in New Milford, NJ, graduated from the University of Rhode Island and moved to Northeast Ohio in 1993. She was an elementary school teacher and later changed careers to Real Estate Agent. She resided in Lakewood, Fairview Park, Rocky River and Westlake, OH.

Denise enjoyed tennis, golf, yoga, and being outdoors. She was best known for her contagious smile, calm demeanor, zest for life, consistency in putting others before herself, positive attitude, honesty and generosity, and her unwavering devotion to her Catholic faith. Denise's greatest passion was being a full-time mother to her two young sons and spending time with family. Her beautiful life will live on through her husband, her sons, and her family and friends who cherished her so dearly.

Denise was the beloved wife of Matt Kanan, beloved mother of Matthew Kanan and Mason Kanan, daughter of Hans Kern and Sheila Kern, daughter-in-law of Mike Kanan and the late Betty Kanan, sister of Danielle Porter and Melissa Kern, sister-in-law of Kevin Porter, Cody Werling, Mike Kanan, Sharon Kanan, Marty Kanan, and Marco Kanan, aunt of Lily Porter, Gunnar Werling, Michael Kanan and Matthew Kanan.

Memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 4pm-8pm at Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Rd, Avon, OH 44011. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 11:00am at St. Christopher Parish, 20141 Detroit Rd, Rocky River, OH 44116.
