Fund Type: Family Support

Massillon, OH

Fundraiser ends on September 17, 2021

Setting up a fund for the family of Tomás Carrión Cortés to assist with final expenses.

Tomás Carrión Cortés, age 86 of Massillon, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2021 at his home.

He was born March 7, 1935, in Arebico, Puerto Rico; the son of the late Juan M. and Generosa M. (Serrano) Cortés.

Tomas was a retired master mechanic, barber and electrician.

He was a member of Morning Star United Holy Church where he routinely played bongos at the services. He enjoyed carpentry, culinary arts, playing various instruments such as guitar, piano, all wind and percussion. His musical group "Conjunto Cortes" repeatedly filled venues with the product of his talent and leadership in his early years. In his senior years, when he wasn't fixing someone's car or hanging out with friends and family, he was playing his guitar and singing between sips of steaming hot coffee. His stories and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Tomas is survived by his sons, Tomás R. Cortés, Miguel D. Cortés, Juan M. Cortés and daughter, Shneka Williams. Nieces, Marguerita and Judy; nephews, Zachary and Samuel, grandchildren, Amadea (Maddy), Sjuan and Andres. Brother, Juan Esteban Cortés and sister, Francisca Cortés.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a baby brother.

A memorial service with military honors (Army) will be held on Monday 08/23/2021 at Morning Star United Holy Church, 1128 Walnut Rd SE, Massillon at 11:00am (EST) with Pastor Clemmons officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 10:30am to 11:00am.

His final place of rest will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville.

Flowers are welcome and if assistance is possible to help with the final expenses.
