Jonathan M. Dunn Memorial Fund
Fund Type: Family SupportVirginia Beach, VA
Fundraiser ends on May 03, 2021
Jonathan Michael Dunn unexpectedly passed into eternity with his Savior outside of his home in Virginia Beach, Virginia on March 30, 2021. Jon was born on May 24, 1976 in Lawrence, Massachusetts to Phyllis Jean (Costanzo) Dunn and James Joseph Dunn. Jon was a 1995 graduate of Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Upon graduating from high school, Jon enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Korea and Hawaii. He served faithfully for 6 years before departing honorably due to injuries. His desire to continue serving his country led him to push through his physical limitations to join the U.S. Marshals. He made it through the rigorous assessment process and was invited to the U.S. Marshals Academy, but unfortunately succumbed to another injury. Jon eventually resigned himself to a desk job and found a new passion in the IT field. He graduated from ECPI with degrees both in Computer Networking and Systems Engineering with several certifications. He worked as a Systems Analyst for Anthem, Inc. at the time of his passing. Jon was most proud of his time serving in the U.S. Army and wore his veteran status proudly. He was passionate about supporting those who have sacrificed for our country.
Jon is survived by his beloved wife, Nicole Gatrell-Dunn, mother Phyllis (Costanzo) Dunn, father James Dunn and sister, Rachelle Dunn. In addition, he leaves behind 11 nephews and nieces who knew him as their beloved Uncle Jon. Jon was a reserved man with a quirky sense of humor that those who were closest to him enjoyed. He spent his time with his family and his dog, Buster, who was by his side at the time of his passing. Jon was growing in his faith and knowledge of his Savior. We find comfort in knowing that he is no doubt fighting for us in Heaven, no longer bound by the physical limitations that held him back in this life.
The family would like to thank the members of the Virginia Beach Fire and Rescue Department for their emergency response and tireless efforts.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 8th at 12:00 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, located at 5033 Rouse Drive in Virginia Beach, followed by a burial service at 3:00 p.m. at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA with military honors.
