In Loving Memory of Richard Arthur Hatch

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We come together today to honor the life and legacy of Richard Arthur Hatch, known affectionately as Dick. Although he may no longer be with us, his spirit of kindness, dedication, and love for his community will forever live on.

Born in Ogdensburg, NY, Dick led a remarkable life filled with hard work and unwavering commitment. As a young man, he worked as a farmhand, a construction worker, and even as a milkman for Mercer's Dairy. But it was at St. Joe Minerals Co. where he truly found his calling, spending an incredible 45 years mining Zinc. With unmatched expertise, he became a skilled hoist operator, ensuring the safety of his fellow miners for over 35 years.

Beyond his work, Dick had a deep passion for sports and family. He coached his four boys in little league baseball and basketball, earning the nickname "The Veteran" for his impressive two-handed jump shot on Hatch court. Boxing and wrestling were his favorite events to attend, idolizing champions such as Carmen Basilio and Mohammad Ali. His dedication extended to his own health as well, as he could often be seen jogging rain or shine up route 58 for many years.

Dick's involvement in the Gouverneur Volunteer Fire Department spanned over two decades, and he proudly served as an exempt Fireman. Alongside his work, he established lifelong friendships within his community and the various places he called home. He also found solace and strength in his faith, actively participating in Lifepoint Community Church in Wilmington.

Born to Richard Hatch and Mary Fuller Hatch, Dick married Mary Messier on October 23, 1959. Together, they shared a beautiful life, raising their family in Gouverneur, NY, before embarking on their retirement years in Wilmington, NC. They cherished family get-togethers and cherished the moments spent with their children and grandchildren.

As we celebrate his life, we kindly ask for your support in honoring Dick's memory by making a donation to the Gouverneur Fire Department. This incredible organization holds a special place in Dick's heart, and your generosity will ensure that their vital work can continue, serving and protecting our community.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to this cause that was near and dear to Dick's heart. Your support will make a lasting impact in honoring his legacy and continuing the invaluable work of the Gouverneur Fire Department.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported us during this difficult time. Your love, prayers, and kind gestures have provided comfort and solace. Together, let us remember Dick for the incredible person he was and keep his spirit alive through our acts of kindness and giving.

With heartfelt appreciation,

The Hatch Family and Loved Ones
